China welcomes the AI boom with a wide range of application scenarios

Advancements in Artificial Intelligence at the 2024 Zhongguancun Forum in Beijing

The 2024 Zhongguancun Forum in Beijing is making waves with the introduction of an advanced virtual artificial intelligence (AI) avatar named Tong Tong. This “girl” avatar, developed by the Beijing Institute for General Artificial Intelligence, is based on artificial general intelligence and is capable of understanding words, interpreting intentions, and proactively offering assistance.

Tong Tong is just one example of the many AI innovations coming out of China, which has seen its AI industry rapidly expanding. With a total scale of 500 billion yuan ($70.37 billion) and over 4,400 related enterprises, China is at the forefront of AI technology.

AI technology is being applied in various sectors, from autonomous driving to healthcare. Driverless vehicles equipped with AI can navigate complex road sections, while surgical robots with AI systems are increasing the precision and accuracy of operations.

China is also making strides in the development of large language models (LLMs), with over 100 LLMs with more than one billion parameters each launched in the country. Companies like Baidu are seeing success with their LLM products, such as Ernie Bot, which has a user base exceeding 200 million.

According to experts, China is focused on mastering advanced LLM algorithms, promoting the integration of computing software and hardware, and accelerating technology transformation in various sectors. With China’s comparative advantage in voice and medical LLMs, the future of AI applications in 2024 looks promising.

As more innovative AI application scenarios and product forms emerge, China is poised to maintain its position as a leading country in AI application. The 2024 Zhongguancun Forum is just the beginning of what’s to come in the world of AI technology.
