AWS Re:inforce 2024: Key Announcements and Launches for Strong and Secure Foundations

At an online ASEAN security briefing held on July 3, Kimberly Dickson, senior worldwide security specialist at AWS, shared key announcements made at AWS Re:inforce, held on June 10-12 in Philadelphia. The event showcased AWS’s commitment to enabling customers to build generative AI and AI applications on top of their platform.

Dickson emphasized the importance of a defence-in-depth approach when it comes to generative AI, stating that it is transforming how businesses operate and innovate. She highlighted AWS’s secure, private, and safe tools that allow customers to run their AI workloads effectively.

The addition of new features to AWS services underscores three key points – AWS being the most secure cloud platform, customers choosing AWS for generative AI applications due to their security commitment, and customers achieving improved security outcomes and innovation on AWS.

Dickson provided examples of companies in Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam utilizing AWS to build generative AI applications. Synapxe, Singapore’s national health tech agency, leverages AWS to create a secure HealthX Innovation Sandbox for healthcare entities to experiment and demonstrate innovations. They collaborate with AWS on AI and data applications to enhance healthcare systems.

Arcanic.ai, a Vietnamese company, is developing an AI platform for Vietnamese businesses using Amazon SageMaker. Temus Singapore utilizes Amazon CodeWhisperer to enhance developer productivity and code quality.

Dickson explained AWS’s three-layered approach to modern application security, integrating secure physical hardware, tools for building generative AI models, and applications leveraging large language models and foundational models.

She emphasized that no industry or sector is inherently more vulnerable to security threats, highlighting AWS’s democratization of security tooling for all customers. AWS continuously reduces the cost of security services to ensure security across industries.

At AWS Re:Inforce 2024, AWS announced new features such as Amazon GuardDuty’s malware protection for Amazon S3, passkeys for multifactor authentication in IAM, and natural language query generation in CloudTrail Lake. AWS Audit Manager also released an AI best practices framework for Amazon SageMaker.

Additionally, AWS announced the general availability of Amazon Q, a generative AI-powered assistant for software development, and highlighted partnerships with companies like PVcomBank and VIB in Vietnam to enhance cloud computing capabilities.
