Hong Kong Investment Corporation Announces Third Strategic Partnership with AI Robot Company at AI Forum on July 19, 2024
Exciting news in the world of technology and innovation as Hong Kong Investment Corporation (HKIC) announces its third strategic cooperation partnership with an artificial intelligence-empowered robot company. The partnership will be unveiled at an AI forum on July 19, according to Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po.
The new strategic partner will focus on the research of robots integrated with large language models, joining the ranks of SmartMore and BioMap as HKIC’s partners in the field of artificial intelligence. The forum will also feature a special focus on youth training, with high-school students from Hong Kong invited to interact with guests and newly developed AI robots.
In a blog post, Chan emphasized the importance of cultivating the interest of the younger generation in technological innovation and interdisciplinary skills. He highlighted the diverse backgrounds of founders in AI and robot companies, noting that some majored in medical sciences while others in engineering science.
The SAR government is dedicated to promoting innovation and technology development, as well as diversifying the economic structure. Resources and policy support are being provided to universities, scientific research institutions, and schools to encourage science education.
According to the 2022 OECD Program for International Student Assessment, Hong Kong students have excelled in mathematics and science, ranking fourth and seventh respectively among 81 economies. The government’s increased allocation of funds for science education in primary schools reflects its commitment to nurturing young talent in the field of technology.
With a focus on AI, big data, life and health technology, financial technology, as well as new energy and materials, the government aims to accelerate the cultivation of new productive forces tailored to local conditions. This initiative is expected to provide more quality employment opportunities for young people and enable individuals with diverse interests and abilities to thrive in the technology sector.
