China collaborates to advance development of embodied AI robotics

China Accelerates Development of Embodied AI Robotics Through Central and Local Government Cooperation

China is ramping up its efforts in the development of embodied artificial intelligence (AI) robotics with the upgrade of the Beijing Embodied Artificial Intelligence Robotics Innovation Center to a National and Local Co-built Center. This move signifies a closer cooperation between the central and local governments to support research and development in the field of humanoid robots.

Established in November 2023, the HUMANOID center in Beijing E-Town is China’s first innovation center dedicated to core technologies, product development, and application ecosystems for embodied AI robots. With the upgrade, the center will receive increased support to drive innovation, establish industry standards, and accelerate the deployment of humanoid robot products.

Minister of Industry and Information Technology, Jin Zhuanglong, highlighted the importance of joint efforts in developing the new center to advance underlying technologies, promote the application of scientific achievements, and drive the intelligent transformation of key industries. China aims to establish a robust innovation system for humanoid robots by 2025 and integrate related products into the real economy by 2027.

Provinces such as Zhejiang, Shandong, Anhui, and Sichuan have also made strides in the development of humanoid robotics by establishing their own innovation centers. This collaborative approach between the central and local governments is expected to propel China’s position as a leader in the field of embodied AI robotics.

With these initiatives in place, China is poised to drive innovation, foster technological advancements, and accelerate the integration of humanoid robots into various industries, marking a significant step towards the rise of new quality productive forces in the country.
