Robot Artist Ai-Da’s Portrait of Alan Turing to be Sold at Sotheby’s

Robot artist Ai-Da set to make history with portrait of Alan Turing up for sale at Sotheby’s

A groundbreaking moment in the art world is on the horizon as a humanoid robot artist named Ai-Da is set to have her work put up for sale by a major auction house for the first time ever. The portrait of Alan Turing, a pioneer in the field of computing, is expected to fetch up to £150,000 at Sotheby’s in London next month.

Ai-Da, powered by artificial intelligence, has created a haunting portrait of Turing titled “AI God,” which was first exhibited at the United Nations as part of a larger display earlier this year. The ultra-realistic robot, designed to resemble a human female, uses AI algorithms and bionic hands to create her artwork.

Gallery owner Aidan Meller, who led the team that created Ai-Da, highlighted the symbolic nature of the portrait, noting Turing’s early concerns about the power of AI. The piece’s muted tones and broken facial planes serve as a reminder of the challenges we may face in managing AI in the future.

Ai-Da has previously made headlines for her depictions of headline acts at the Glastonbury music festival in the UK. The upcoming Sotheby’s Digital Art Sale, running from October 31 to November 7, will feature Ai-Da’s historic portrait of Turing among other works.

Don’t miss this opportunity to witness the intersection of art and technology as Ai-Da’s groundbreaking artwork goes under the hammer at Sotheby’s next month.
