Gemini was the most popular search term on Google in 2025

Every year, Google releases a report highlighting the most popular searches, providing a snapshot of what has piqued our collective curiosity, spanning pop culture, entertainment, internet trends, and news events. This year, people around the world were most curious about everything from hot honey and AI chatbots for the Toronto Blue Jays.

Before we get into the details, it's worth noting that Google's report doesn't reflect the totality of the most popular searches. If this were the case, the list would be filled with general terms like “weather” rather than popular topics. Instead, in “The Year in Search,” Google highlights search queries that saw consistent traffic growth in 2025 compared to 2024.

Taking this into account, the most popular search engine of the year was “Gemini”, which is Google's artificial intelligence chatbot, followed by “India vs. England” and “Charlie Kirk”. Gemini wasn't the only AI chatbot to make the list, as DeepSeek ranked seventh among the most popular searches this year.

Google says the top news topic in 2025 was Charlie Kirk, with “Charlie Kirk's murder” topping the list. The second and third most frequently occurring information queries were “Iran” and “U.S. government shutdown,” respectively.

When it comes to recipes and food, Sweet and Spicy Hot Honey Spices took first place, while Marry Me Chicken and Chimichurri took the top three.

For movies, the most frequently searched term was “Anora,” followed by “Superman” and “Minecraft Movie.” The most popular actor search went to “Anora” star Mikey Madison. Second place went to Lewis Pullman, who starred in Marvel's “Thunderbolts,” followed by Isabela Merced, who starred in “Superman.”

On the sports front, the most popular search was “FIFA Club World Cup”, followed by “Asian Cup” and “ICC Champions Trophy”. The most searched sports team was Paris Saint-Germain FC, followed by SL Benfica and Toronto Blue Jays, respectively.
