RAICo Fellowship Programme Encourages Women and Early Career Researchers in Robotics and AI

Are you a woman or early career researcher with a passion for robotics and artificial intelligence? If so, the RAICo Fellowship programme is calling your name. This collaboration between the UK Atomic Energy Authority, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, Sellafield Ltd, and the University of Manchester is on a mission to accelerate the deployment of robotics and AI in nuclear decommissioning and fusion engineering.

The RAICo Fellowship programme is designed to provide invaluable experience for women and early career researchers looking to work in the nuclear sector and commercialize their research. Dr. Jenn Jones, Nuclear Robotics Programme Manager at the University of Manchester, is excited about the opportunity to widen the diversity of the RAI community through this programme. She encourages applications from women and early career researchers to bring new technologies, ideas, and voices to the collaborative programme.

If you are within five years of completing your PhD and working as a member of academic staff or as a postdoctoral research associate at a UK research institution, you are eligible to apply for the RAICo Fellowship. Even if you have taken a career break and returned to work after five years, Dr. Jones encourages you to apply for the Fellowship scheme.

As a RAICo Fellow, you will contribute to expanding research expertise within RAICo, connect with academic partners, and translate cutting-edge research into practical solutions for nuclear decommissioning challenges. Successful applicants can receive up to £20,000 in funding for costs and must be willing to visit the RAICo facility in Whitehaven, Cumbria, or relevant nuclear sites regularly throughout the fellowship. The award is available until the end of March 2025.
