JBL introduces new AI-powered echolocation software, enabling visually impaired players to experience FPS games

JBL Launches AI-Powered Echolocation Software for Visually Impaired Gamers

JBL, a popular personal audio brand, has just launched a groundbreaking AI-powered echolocation software called JBL Quantum Guide Play. This software is designed to unlock the world of first-person shooter (FPS) games for visually impaired players, allowing them to experience and enjoy gaming in a whole new way.

The JBL Quantum Guide Play software, available for Windows users, uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to convert in-game objects and structures into audio cues. These cues, based on JBL Quantum’s head tracking and Spatial Audio technology, mimic echolocation and provide visually impaired players with a heightened awareness of their in-game surroundings. This innovative approach enables players to navigate through the game using sound, opening up a new realm of possibilities for those with visual impairments.

One of the most remarkable aspects of JBL Quantum Guide Play is that it does not require JBL Quantum headphones to function. The software is available as a free download for anyone who needs it, with the only recommendation being that individuals with 0% vision seek assistance in setting up and using the program for the first time.

Grace Koh, Vice President and General Manager of Consumer Audio at Harman Asia Pacific, expressed the company’s commitment to creating a more inclusive gaming community through JBL Quantum Guide Play. By collaborating with Ablegamers, a US-based non-profit organization, and engaging with visually impaired testers, JBL has ensured that the software meets the needs of the community it aims to serve.

Among the testers who helped refine JBL Quantum Guide Play are Singaporeans Sophie Soon, a para-swimming athlete, and Josh Tseng, an accessibility consultant and advocate. Their feedback and input have been instrumental in improving the software and making it more accessible to a wider audience.

Currently, JBL Quantum Guide Play is compatible with Counter-Strike 2, but JBL has announced plans to make the source code open-source in the near future. This move will allow other companies and developers to incorporate this free accessibility feature into their FPS games, further expanding the reach and impact of JBL Quantum Guide Play.

For visually impaired players who have longed to experience the thrill of FPS games, JBL Quantum Guide Play represents a significant step towards a more inclusive gaming landscape. The software can be downloaded from the official JBL website, offering a new level of accessibility and enjoyment for gamers of all abilities.
