Adobe Firefly now supports tooltip-based video editing and adds more third-party models

Adobe is updating its AI video generation app, Firefly, with a new video editor that supports precision editing using tooltips, and is also adding new third-party image and video generation models, including FLUX.2 and Topaz Astra from Black Forest Labs.

Until now, Firefly only supported hint-based generation, so if you didn't like any part of the video, you had to play the entire clip. In the new editor, you can use text suggestions to edit video elements, colors and camera angles, and we also get a new timeline view that allows you to easily adjust frames, sounds and other features.

The company first announced the new video editor in October in a private beta, and now it's rolling out to all users.

The company says that using Runway's Aleph model, users can give Firefly detailed instructions such as “Change the sky to cloudy and lower the contrast” or “Magnify the main subject slightly.”

Thanks to Adobe's Firefly Video model, users can now upload a start frame and reference video of camera movement and then tell it to recreate the camera angle for the video they are working on.

The company also said that users can now use Topaz Labs' Astra model to upscale videos to 1080p or 4K resolution. The app will also feature Black Forest Labs' FLUX.2 image generation model along with a collaboration boards feature.

The company said FLUX.2 will be immediately available on Firefly on all platforms, and Adobe Express users will be able to use FLUX.2 starting in January.

As competitors release new image and video generation models, Adobe wants to encourage users to engage more with its app. Along with the new updates to the Firefly app, the company announced that subscribers to the Firefly Pro, Firefly Premium, 7,000 credits and 50,000 credits plans will receive unlimited generations from all Adobe Firefly image models and the Adobe Firefly video model in the Firefly app until January 15.

Adobe has made a ton of changes to its Firefly models and apps this year. In February, the company launched a subscription service that allows users access to various levels of image and video generation; then in the same year it launched the new Firefly web app along with mobile apps and added support for more third-party models in the Firefly app.
