Box and AWS Expand Partnership to Enable Users to Build Applications with Data and Foundation Models

Users of the Box intelligent content management platform now have the ability to use Amazon Bedrock to build applications with their data and foundation models, starting with Anthropic’s Claude and Amazon Titan. This capability, made generally available on Thursday (Oct. 24), is the result of a newly expanded strategic partnership between Box and AWS.

In a press release on Thursday, the companies announced that this partnership will expand the value of Box’s Intelligent Content Cloud and provide choice to Box’s customers. Enterprises will now be able to apply the AI models they know and love to the place where work is already getting done in Box.

Ben Kus, Chief Technology Officer at Box, stated in the release, “This partnership will expand the value of Box’s Intelligent Content Cloud and put choice into the hands of Box’s customers, allowing enterprises to apply the AI models they know and love to the place where work is already getting done in Box.”

With this integration, companies of all sizes will be able to use AI models and their own data to build generative AI applications. They will also be able to extract more intelligence from their data by using a Box connector for the Amazon Q Business generative AI assistant.

Vasi Philomin, vice president of generative AI at AWS, highlighted the importance of leveraging data and content for companies to realize the greatest value from generative AI. He stated, “AWS and Box both recognize that the key for companies to realize the greatest value from generative AI is the ability to simply and securely leverage their own data and content.”

Amazon Bedrock, launched by AWS in April 2023, provides customers access to foundation models developed by AWS and other companies. This allows customers to choose the model that best suits their needs and use it to build their own generative AI application. Additionally, Amazon Q Business, introduced in April, is a generative AI assistant that helps employees get answers to questions about company policies, product information, business results, code base, employees, and other topics based on business data. It connects to over 40 commonly used business tools.

Overall, this partnership between Box and AWS aims to empower businesses to leverage their private data managed in Box to gain insights, generate content, and complete tasks using advanced generative AI models and applications.
