Chinese AI applications are making headway in the US by assisting students with their homework.

Chinese AI Education Apps Making Waves in US Market amid Intensified Competition

Chinese-developed education apps powered by generative artificial intelligence (AI) are taking the US market by storm, as companies seek to expand their reach beyond China’s competitive landscape. Leading the charge are Question.AI and Gauth, developed by Zuoyebang and ByteDance respectively, which have quickly risen to the top of the charts in the US.

According to mobile app intelligence service AppMagic, both Question.AI and Gauth were ranked among the top three free educational apps in the US on Apple’s iOS store and Google Play from February to May. These apps leverage generative AI technology to provide students with solutions to a wide range of subjects, from math and science to literature and economics.

Despite facing stiff competition from established players like Duolingo, these Chinese apps have managed to carve out a niche for themselves in the US market. Users can simply take a photo of their homework problem, and the apps will generate detailed solutions with step-by-step explanations.

While these apps have been successful in gaining traction in the US, they still face challenges when it comes to monetization. AppMagic data shows that neither Gauth nor Question.AI made it into the top 10 grossing apps over the last four months, indicating that there is still room for growth in this competitive market.

With more Chinese app developers setting their sights on Western markets, it will be interesting to see how these AI-powered education apps continue to evolve and compete on a global scale.
