Democratising Application Testing with Gen-AI in Tricentis Copilot

Advancements in AI-Assisted Testing for Software Application Development

Tricentis, a continuous testing and quality engineering company, is leading the way in AI-assisted testing for software application development. Their latest offering, Tricentis Testim Copilot, uses generative AI to help software testers create custom tests without in-depth coding expertise. This tool not only generates JavaScript code based on text descriptions but also provides explanations for selected code and recommends fixes for potential issues.

With enterprises increasingly concerned about compliance, data use, and IP protection, Testim Copilot has been designed to provide developer productivity gains and increased application quality without compromising on responsible usage, safety, or accessibility. This tool enables less technical testers to participate in the creation and execution of AI-generated test cases, leading to faster completion, fewer errors, higher productivity, and reduced costs.

According to Mav Turner, chief product and strategy officer at Tricentis, customers utilizing Tricentis AI tools have seen a significant uplift in test case generation and a decrease in test failure rates. The democratization of testing with AI allows even less technical resources to participate in software testing, aligning with Agile development and complex enterprise app creation inside DevOps teams.

IDC estimates that enterprises will leverage generative AI and automation technologies to drive $1 trillion in productivity gains by 2026. Melinda Ballou, research director for IDC’s Agile ALM, quality & portfolio strategies, highlights the benefits of using AI in testing, including test prioritization, root cause identification, automated test case creation, and self-healing of test cases.

While some may fear that AI-powered testing services will put software application testing engineers out of business, the reality is quite the opposite. AI is not here to replace developers but to provide them with additional support services that make their coding tasks easier and more efficient. As the demand for enterprise software applications continues to grow, the role of testers remains essential in ensuring the quality and reliability of these applications.
