DoorDash appears to have confirmed a viral story about a driver who used an AI-generated photo to lie about making a delivery.
How Nextstar reportedAustin resident Byrne Hobart said he experienced something like this while writing in the post on X: “Awesome. The DoorDash driver accepted the drive, immediately marked it as delivered, and uploaded an AI-generated image of the DoorDash order (left) at our front door (right).”
When his post started gaining attention, Hobart provided more detailsadmitting that his story would be “pretty easy” to fake. However, he noted, “Someone chimed in from downstairs and said the same thing happened to them, also in Austin, with the same driver name displayed.”
As for how the driver did it, Hobart speculates that he used a hacked account on a jailbroken phone and obtained an image of the front door using DoorDash, which displays photos from previous deliveries.
A DoorDash spokesperson told TechCrunch: “After quickly investigating this incident, our team permanently deleted the Dasher account and ensured the customer was in good health. We have zero tolerance for fraud and use a combination of technology and manual controls to detect and prevent bad actors from abusing our platform.”
