A Facebook feature that allows Meta AI to suggest changes to photos that are stored in your phone's camera roll but haven't been shared yet is now rolling out to all users in the US and Canada. Business announced on Friday, users will be able to opt-in to receiving sharing suggestions, which will then prompt them to post photos to their Facebook feeds and stories with changes made by artificial intelligence.
Facebook's app, first launched in the summer as part of a test run, displays a dialog box asking for access to “allow cloud computing” so users can get “creative ideas made for you from your camera roll.” This box explains that this feature can offer the end user ideas such as collages, summaries, AI restyling, birthday themes, and more.
For the artificial intelligence to work, the Facebook app would continuously upload images from your device to its cloud. This allows Meta's artificial intelligence to make suggested changes. Meta says user media will not be used for ad targeting purposes and will not use it to improve its artificial intelligence systems unless the user chooses to edit the media or share edited photos with friends or others on a social network.
The function can be turned off at any time.
Although Meta may not train its AI on all your photos if you agree to it AI Meta Terms of Useyou allow the analysis of your media and facial features by artificial intelligence. The terms say that by processing your photos, Meta can “summarize image content, modify images, and generate new content based on the image.”
The company also uses the date and presence of people or objects in your photos to inform its creative ideas, giving Meta much more information about you, your relationships and your life.
Additionally, making Meta available photos that have not yet been shared on Meta platforms can give a company an edge in the AI race by providing a wealth of user data, behavioral insights, and ideas for new AI features.
