Establishment of GMO AI & Robotics Corporation (GMO AIR) by GMO Internet Group, Inc. Board of Directors
GMO Internet Group, Inc. is making waves in the tech industry with the establishment of its new subsidiary, GMO AI & Robotics Corporation (GMO AIR). The Board of Directors made the decision at a meeting held on June 17, 2024, with the goal of promoting the growth of the Japanese economy through the widespread adoption of AI, robots, and industrial drones.
While some may still be cautious about using generative AI in Japan, the country is facing a potential shortage of 11 million workers by 2040. In response to this impending labor crisis, GMO AIR is stepping in to support the introduction and utilization of AI and robotics technologies.
With the slogan “AI and Robots for Everyone,” GMO AIR plans to develop a range of business services focused on facilitating the use of AI and robots/drones. This includes procuring robots from both domestic and international sources, as well as offering internet infrastructure products from GMO Internet Group.
In addition to these services, GMO AIR will leverage its financial business strengths to provide rentals, leases, loans, insurance, and government grant utilization support. The company also aims to share its AI utilization know-how, which has already proven to reduce work hours and cut costs for its customers.
Looking ahead, GMO AIR has ambitious plans to build an “Interaction Data Platform” and establish joint ventures with robot and industrial drone manufacturers. By collecting and analyzing behavioral and observational data from robots and drones, the company aims to provide valuable insights to AI-related companies both in Japan and internationally.
Overall, GMO AIR is poised to play a key role in shaping the future of AI and robotics in Japan, offering innovative solutions to address the country’s workforce challenges and drive economic growth.
