Google’s generative AI powers LG’s new line of robots

LG Electronics Collaborates with Google to Deploy Generative AI Gemini to CLOi GuideBot Robots

LG Electronics has announced a groundbreaking collaboration with Google to enhance its CLOi GuideBot robots with the tech giant’s generative AI, Gemini. This partnership marks a significant step forward in the world of robotics, as LG aims to provide advanced robot services with unprecedented intelligence.

At the recent Google Cloud Summit Seoul event, LG unveiled the Gemini-powered CLOi GuideBot, showcasing the first-ever integration of generative AI into its robots. Gemini is capable of receiving user commands through various mediums, including text, voice, images, and coding. Visitors at the event were treated to a demonstration of the robot’s AI chatbot function, which seamlessly answered questions and generated photo images through voice commands.

LG plans to launch the enhanced LG CLOi GuideBot with Google’s generative AI later this year, with plans to expand the application of generative AI functions to its existing guide robots through wireless software updates. This development will significantly improve the robots’ communication capabilities, allowing them to autonomously generate responses to a wide range of user inquiries.

With the integration of generative AI, LG envisions its robots evolving to perform more creative and complex tasks in various industries. The company is poised to capitalize on the growing market for robotics, which is projected to reach $64.35 billion by 2030, according to data by Statista.

Roh Kyu-chan, head of LG’s robot business division, expressed excitement about the potential of this collaboration, stating, “Through the synergy of LG Electronics’ advanced AI robot technology capabilities and big tech companies’ AI platform technology, we will lead innovation in customer experience in the robot business.”

LG has been actively building a robot ecosystem, with plans to deploy its robots in a variety of spaces, including airports, hotels, restaurants, hospitals, retail stores, and warehouses. The company’s commitment to innovation and collaboration with industry leaders like Google positions it as a key player in the rapidly evolving field of robotics.
