Here’s how ChatGPT can now read its replies out loud

OpenAI Introduces “Read Aloud” Feature for ChatGPT: Here’s How to Use It

OpenAI has introduced a new “read aloud” feature for its popular ChatGPT artificial intelligence chatbot, allowing users to listen to the bot’s responses instead of just reading them. This feature is accessible through a speaker icon below each message on both the web and mobile app versions of ChatGPT.

The technology behind this feature is the same as the ChatGPT Voice feature on the mobile app, which enables users to have full conversations with the AI model using voice commands. The read aloud feature continues even if you leave the ChatGPT screen, allowing you to multitask while listening to the bot’s responses.

In addition to the read aloud feature, OpenAI has also introduced a new settings menu option that allows users to change the voice of the AI. Users can choose from five different voices, including male, female, and androgynous options named Jupiter, Breeze, Ember, Cove, and Sky.

According to OpenAI, the read aloud feature is designed for moments when users need to be hands-free or when hearing a message out loud helps with understanding. It can also be used for entertainment purposes, such as listening to a fun story or hearing how a written speech might sound out loud.

Other new features introduced alongside the read aloud feature include updates to the voice-to-text icon within the ChatGPT app, making voice features easier to access. OpenAI has been focusing on multimodality, allowing users to input text, images, speech, and soon video into the AI model.

To use the read aloud feature, users can simply tap the speaker icon below a message on the web or tap and hold a message on the mobile app and select “Read Aloud” from the context menu. Users can also customize the voice settings in the app’s settings menu.

Overall, the new read aloud feature adds a new dimension to the ChatGPT experience, making interactions with the AI model more engaging and accessible to users who prefer listening over reading.
