How artificial intelligence is giving back time to teachers in Northern Ireland

Responsibly use the opportunities that lie before us

We believe that the potential of artificial intelligence in education can only be achieved through its responsible development. One essential aspect of this is close partnership with the entire education ecosystem. When my team and I met with Damian Harvey, interim head of C2k, he emphasized this point. He shared that the success of the pilot was accelerated by the collaboration of a group of teachers sharing their knowledge with each other, as well as the need for resources to train and support further development of AI readiness.

“I think teachers should take advantage of this opportunity,” said Damian Harvey, interim director of C2k.

Following the success of the pilot, C2k plans to make the Gemini training available to more teachers across Northern Ireland. We believe this is just the beginning. We hope to continue to develop these types of partnerships by learning directly from educators using this technology how to best align products with proven pedagogical principles and how to effectively integrate technology to improve student learning outcomes.

As we continue to move towards artificial intelligence in teaching, it is critical that our products support teachers, not replace them. Teachers must maintain full control over how they use AI to help students learn. As I have often said: technology is not magic, teachers are.
