Introducing the ‘AI Skills Lab’ Project: Transforming Education with Artificial Intelligence in Tarragona Schools
The University Rovira i Virgili (URV) has launched an innovative artificial intelligence project in eleven schools in the Tarragona region, aiming to revolutionize the education system. The ‘AI Skills Lab’ project is designed to train educators on how to incorporate AI into the classroom, with monthly online sessions led by experts from around the world.
The project has been well-received, with half of the teaching staff signing up for the training. Teachers are learning about AI applications such as ChatGPT for document creation and Stable Diffusion for image generation. Students are also benefiting from AI tools, with one student using Stable Diffusion to get inspiration for hairstyling.
AI is not only being used for content creation but also as an evaluation tool. Teachers like Ramon Cerdà are using AI to create test questions and provide immediate feedback to students. This saves time for teachers and enhances the learning experience for students.
The project also emphasizes the importance of responsible AI use, with data privacy and security being top priorities. Educators are working to educate students on the ethical use of technology and critical thinking skills to identify AI-generated content.
Funded by the Catalan Ministry of Education, the project is set to run for the current school year. With positive results so far, the ‘AI Skills Lab’ project is paving the way for a more technologically advanced and engaging educational experience for students in the Tarragona region.
