Creating Aiyana: A Navajo Girl in the World of AI and Technology
Christopher Richardson, aka Kritter, is breaking new ground in the world of artificial intelligence and storytelling with his creation of Aiyana, the Navajo Flower. Using cutting-edge technology, Richardson has brought to life a young Navajo girl with dark brown straight hair and large brown, inquisitive eyes in the style of Pixar 3D animation.
Aiyana is a math genius who is passionate about AI and wants to make AI programs more accessible to her community on the reservation. Richardson, along with his co-producer Ava Tien, has created a series of one-minute episodes featuring Aiyana and her friends and family, showcasing the power of AI in a relatable and engaging way.
Through their project, Azai Project, Richardson and Tien aim to demystify AI and make it accessible to all. They have created a Youtube channel, A-Z of Everything AI, where they share informative and captivating videos on the topic. Aiyana is the first of their storytelling approach, blending technology with cultural storytelling.
Integrating Navajo culture into the storyline, Richardson has researched tribal history and issues faced by the Diné people, including the impact of uranium mining on the land. While addressing these issues, Richardson aims to maintain a balance of positivity and awareness, showcasing the potential of technology to bring about positive change.
By making Aiyana the main protagonist and hero of the series, Richardson and Tien hope to inspire young girls to pursue careers in technology and AI. They believe that by showcasing a strong, intelligent female character, they can encourage more girls to enter the field and make a difference.
