New York City Artificial Intelligence Action Plan Unveiled by Mayor Adams Administration

New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Chief Technology Officer Matthew Fraser have unveiled the city’s comprehensive “New York City Artificial Intelligence Action Plan,” marking a significant milestone in the responsible use of innovative artificial intelligence (AI) technology. This groundbreaking plan aims to develop a framework for city agencies to evaluate AI tools, build knowledge and skills in city government, and support the responsible implementation of AI technologies to enhance the quality of life for New Yorkers.

As part of this initiative, the Adams administration has launched the new MyCity Business site, featuring the city’s first citywide AI chatbot. This chatbot is designed to assist business owners in navigating government processes and accessing vital information from over 2,000 NYC Business web pages. The MyCity Business site will serve as a one-stop resource for business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs, providing them with the tools and information needed to start, operate, and grow businesses in New York City.

Mayor Adams emphasized the importance of striking a balance in the global AI conversation, empowering city agencies to deploy technologies that can improve lives while safeguarding against potential risks and harm. The AI Action Plan outlines 37 key actions, with 29 set to be initiated or completed within the next year. These actions include establishing a framework for AI governance, creating an external advisory network, building AI knowledge and skills in city government, enabling responsible AI acquisition, and publishing an annual AI progress report.

The MyCity Business site is a collaborative effort between the New York City Office of Technology and Innovation and the Department of Small Business Services, aligning with Mayor Adams’ vision for economic recovery and growth in the city. The site features an online capital marketplace called NYC Funds Finder, connecting entrepreneurs with financing assistance through various partners and lenders.

City officials, industry experts, and community leaders have expressed support for the AI Action Plan and the MyCity Business site, recognizing the potential of AI technology to enhance government services and support small businesses across New York City. The plan represents a forward-thinking approach to leveraging AI for the public good while ensuring responsible and ethical use of these technologies.

With the launch of the AI Action Plan and the MyCity Business site, New York City is solidifying its position as a leader in the responsible adoption of AI technology, setting a precedent for other cities to follow in harnessing the potential of AI for the benefit of all residents.
