Meta brings its short AI video to Europe

Meta announced on Thursday, it was announced that Vibes, a short-form video channel featuring AI-generated videos, will launch in Europe on the Meta AI app. Think TikTok or Instagram Reels, but every video you come across is generated by artificial intelligence.

The rollout comes six weeks after Meta introduced the channel in the US. A few days after Meta's launch, OpenAI released Sora, a social media platform for creating and sharing AI-generated videos.

With Vibes, you can create and share short AI-generated videos and access a dedicated channel that displays AI videos from others. Meta claims that over time, your feed will become more and more personalized to your interests.

When creating content, you can generate a video using hints or remix someone else's video. You can add new visual elements, add music, or customize styles to your liking.

“This is an inherently social and collaborative creation experience where we encourage you to remix, co-create, and build stories with your friends,” Meta wrote in blog post. “Videos and content can be shared and posted directly to your Vibes feed, sent to friends, or cross-posted to Instagram and Facebook Stories and Circles.”

When Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the channel in September, users have been commenting on it in response announcement post were about what you'd expect, especially since no one really wants an AI-generated version of TikTok.

One of the most popular comments on the post read: “gang, no one wants this,” while another popular comment read: “Bro posting bullshit on his own app.” Another comment read: “I think I speak for everyone when I say: What…?”

While Meta uses AI-generated content, companies like YouTube are looking to address this issue as the rise of AI technology has flooded social media platforms with AI-related bugs – a term for low-quality AI-powered content.

Meta Vibes' debut is particularly puzzling considering that earlier this year the company said it was cracking down on “non-original” content and advised creators to focus on “authentic storytelling” rather than short-form videos with little value.

Despite previous announcements, Meta is touting the launch of Vibes, stating that the amount of media in the Meta AI app has increased more than tenfold since its launch.
