Mozilla announced On Thursday that he closes Pocket, the reading application he purchased in 2017, July 8. The company also closes fakespot, an extension of the browser that helps users identify incredible reviews.
“Pocket helped millions save articles and discover stories worth reading,” said Mozilla in a blog post. “But the way people use the Internet have evolved, so we direct our resources to projects that better match their browsing habits and online needs.”
Users will be able to continue using the browser application and pocket extensions until July 8. After this date, the pocket will go to only export mode. Users have until October 8 to export saved articles, including items on their list, archive, favorite, notes and the most important information.
While Mozilla did not provide a specific reason for the service, the company claims that it will continue to invest in helping people in discovering and “access to high quality internet content”. Mozilla says that he will do it by his own New card Experience, E -Mail and more newsletter. New impressions from the tab contain shortcuts to the most visited pages, recently visited pages and bookmarks.
As for Fakespot, Mozilla claims that she closes the service because “although he resonated the idea, he did not match the model that we could support.”
Although it is not clear how many users had a pocket, the service was able to cultivate the loyal user base for years. Users started to social media to express dissatisfaction with the message.
“This change allows us to shape the next era of the Internet-thanks to tools such as vertical bookmarks, intelligent search and more AI powered functions,” says Mozilla. “We will continue to build a browser that works hard for you: more personal, more powerful and still proudly independent.”
