Nextdoor redesign the application with AI recommendations, local news and emergency alarms in real time

Neighborhood Social App Nextdoor introduces a redesigned version of its service, which it calls “new next”. The application adds local messages, real -time notifications and a function powered by artificial intelligence called “Faves”, which was designed to discover local companies and places. Nextdoor also updated its general project to make it look more modern.

Launched 15 years ago, Nextdoor has long been used as a popular platform for neighborly talks, helping users to connect with such things for plumbers and suggestions for nearby places to eat. But ultimately his height got stuck, and the involvement fell when the platform linked with the posts containing misinformation AND racism.

Now the company wants to turn around and attract more users, thanks to which its platform is more helpful, useful and timely. Thanks to this redesigning, Nextdoor wants to increase the quality and quantity of local information on the platform, said TechCrunch, CEO of Nextdoor and co -founder of Nirav Tolia.

To transfer messages to his platform, Nextdoor has established cooperation with 3500 local publications in the United States, Great Britain and Canada. Noteworthy stores include the San Francisco, London Standard and Toronto Star standard.

“The reason why it is so important to us is historically, Nextdoor relied 100% of the content generated by users, only the content of your neighbors,” Tolia said. “It was a great source of information. But to really make sure that if it happens in your area, we also need to enter local messages. We let the third publishers use our distribution for the first time.”

Tolia said that these are not commercial contracts, because Nextdoor does not pay for the content or the publishers do not pay the company. In addition, Nextdoor does not host content; Simply display the header, fragment and image and directs the movement to publication. Users will be able to discuss messages in the comments section in each post.

Tolia noticed that publishers are only the first new type of content coming to Nextdoor, because the platform plans to enable small companies, schools and organizations for current presence in the future.

As for new alerts, Nextdoor now shows real -time updates about weather, movement, power failure, storms and fires. These alerts will appear on a dynamic neighborhood map, enabling neighbors to have current talks on safety and readiness.

The service cooperates with SamDesk and Weather.com, which includes the Weather Channel application and Weather.comto power these alerts.

“When there is something that is worth paying attention to, we call it a yellow state, and we will put this alarm at the top,” Tolia said. “When there is something critical, we call it a red state and it will take over the whole application, because at this point you do not care about the conversations of the neighbors about pickleball. You do not care about the new review of the restaurant, which is posted by local publishers. You must meet your neighbors and help save mutual life in some cases.”

Tolia noticed that these alerts are hyperlocked because Nextdoor is built on a geospatial platform. So, unlike amber alerts sent to everyone in a specific location, Nextdoor claims that it can personalize his home notifications. For example, if there is a power failure, the application will only send a warning to people whose power supply is outside.

When it comes to launching favorites, Tolia claims that the recommendations of neighbors are more valuable than in Google or Chatgpt, looking for a local restaurant or a place to spend time with family at the weekend, so Nextdoor launches this function. New features of the favorite are selected by selected lists of recommendations, and also allows you to ask specific questions to get suggestions.

“We have LLM for each district where we downloaded 15 years of neighbors talks and we can now answer questions about this information in a really convincing way,” Tolia said. “So, if we know, we have the first, first truly local artificial intelligence that is powered by neighbors.”

You can ask questions: “What is the best place to go with children?” And receive a quick, summary answer that receives information from posts from real users to Nextdoor. Under the summary you can see and click to posts to which the summary refers.

“This content is reserved for Nextdoor,” Tolia said. “We have never released it. It is not indexed by Google. It is not available on chatgpt, and again, because we know where you live, we can direct this information in the most appropriate way.”

Tolia noticed that the unique value of Nextdoor is digitization and interception of local mouths, a type of hyperlox information that is not available via platforms, such as Google or ChatgPT, because they can only be obtained from direct conversations.

“I give a fun example, if you wanted to know that all lemonade stands work in your area, you can't go to Google maps and find it,” Tolia said. “You can't go to chatgpt and ask this question, right? The only way is to ask your neighbors. And that's what Nextdoor is about. So what will we do? We really recommend it to feel hyperlocal. It's really important that we are less perceived as a social network, and more as a centric network.”
