What's next?
This launch builds on our history of providing context around images in Google search engine and discovering new research innovations such as Backstory with Google DeepMind. Looking ahead, we will continue to invest in more ways to determine the origins and history of online content. We will soon expand SynthID verification to support additional formats beyond images, such as video and audio, and make these capabilities available on more platforms, such as Search.
In addition to our own tools, we work with industry partners to raise standards of content transparency and authenticity across our ecosystem of services – including YouTube, Search, Pixel AND Photos — through our role on the steering committee Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA).
As part of this, this week will feature images generated by Nano Banana Pro (Image of Gemini 3 Pro) in Gemini application, Apex AI AND Google Ads will have C2PA metadata embedded, providing additional transparency into how these images are created. We look forward to expanding this capability to more products and surfaces in the coming months.
Over time, we will expand our verification approach to support as well C2PA content credentials, which means you will be able to check the original source of content created by models and products that exist outside the Google ecosystem.
This work is critical to our commitment to bold and responsible AI. We look forward to continuing to contribute to the future of AI transparency.
