AutomaticThe company standing behind WordPress.com, Tumblr, Woocommerce and a number of other online services, reduces its working strength. Exemptions will affect 16% of employees in various divisions, a Automattic Blog Post published on Wednesday reveals.
Before releases, the Automattic website exchanged 1744 employees, which means that north of 270 people could lose their jobs. (Automation refused to confirm this number, but we hear that the exact number is 281)
The post, which was also made available to company employees through Slack earlier on Wednesday, explains that this “restructuring” was necessary due to the competitive nature of the market and the speed of the evolution of technology.
However, this movement also occurred after the turbulent year Automattic, which was involved in the controversial legal battle with the Hosting company WP Engine. The ongoing drama has already led to the departure of some automatic employees last autumn. In the opinion of Automattic CEO, Matt Mullenweg, Hosting Supplier WP Engine did not contribute enough in the Open Source WordPress.org project, and its use of the “WP” brand was wrong about consumers about its belonging to WordPress itself.
In Wednesday's announcement, Mullenweg explained that the newly announced exemptions would allow automattic to become “more agile and responsive”, “break the silos that created ineffectiveness”, “focus on product quality” and “will provide a profitable financial model for long -term success.”
“To support our customers and products, we must improve our performance, profitability and ability to invest,” we read the post by Mullenweg.
The dismissals will affect employees in 90 countries, which will receive, among others, a check -in package and help in the workplace.
“Automattic has many products with potential in the world around the world in WordPress and beyond.
TechCrunch sources informed us that the layoffs were immediately effective, which means that people received e -mail and then immediately lost access to Slack. We understand that dismissals include some long -term employees who were in the company north of the decade.
The message takes place after Automattic canceled by the annual retreat of the “Grand Meetup” company on 2025, also informed the source.
After the publication, we began to hear more about which orgates were affected from various sources. According to at least one source north of 100 came from Woocommerka. We also heard Tumblr, Day One and Ai Orgs. In the USA, the dismissals included roles, including accounts, marketing, product (management and design), sales, community, business operations and many others. The default check -in package is only 9 weeks.
