Startup called Skylight Accepts a different approach to short -term video. Instead of limiting users to the algorithmic main channel, as in social applications, Skylight builds a community around human curators who publish films to build their own non -standard channels, to which others can subscribe.
The option, which has been launched on Monday, version 2.0 of the applications, may appeal to users who are feeling an increasing sense of anxiety about traditional social media platforms and their algorithmic manipulations, as well as those who irritated the increase in low quality content generated by AI, which now fill these channels.
Built on the BlueSky social network and its basics In the protocolSkilight was launched in April to offer an open alternative to video applications such as Tiktok. Since then, the application has seen about 240,000 downloads and 100,000 films sent to its platform. Skylight also received early financing from Marek Cuban and others.
Like others in this space, the skylight ability to authenticate users with his blues certificates gives him an advantage over building their own user base. Today BlueSky is used by over 38.4 million usersWho can install, run and log in to the ecosystem of open social applications, such as Skylight and others built for movies, photos, blogs, wiki and others.
With the start of Skylight 2.0, the company focuses on improved treatment. Users can now create their own “curator” channel by publishing and reposting films or using other companies to build their own custom channel.
Soon, the company will integrate technology from a custom feed building platform to enable Skylight users to create these custom channels in their own application.
To access selected channels, you simply move to the left of the main side to browse other choices. If you find the curator you want to follow, touch the Plus (+) button to add them to the channel set. Those curators you are already observing will be included in this experience.

The update also includes other integrations with services built for an open social network. Skylight works with the live broadcast platform StremplaceAnother service built on the same protocol that BlueSky and Skylight uses. Using Stremplace technology, Skylight was able to add live transmission function to its application without building the function itself.
In addition, the Skylight application now offers a redesigned player with a full screen mode and allows users to watch movies in a divided screen window, and at the same time view profiles or search for other content.

Built by a team of two, co -founders of Tori White (CEO) and Reed Harmeyer (CTO), Skylight generates a lot of its noise through Tiktok, where White's accountWhere it provides updates of application progress, it now has over 63,000 followers.
These films can sometimes help Spike installations. Only during the last week White tells TechCrunch that Skilight has drawn, for example, another 20,000 downloads, even before the arrival of the new version. He partly believes that this is due to the interest of consumers in leaving established social platforms in order to join the Open Source social community.
Skylight is free download on iOS and Android and has a road map that contains support for other functions, such as music, bookmarks, account switch and many others.
