You can now connect your Spotify account to ChatGPT: Here's how to do it

Earlier this week, OpenAI opened up the ability for developers to build apps within ChatGPT, allowing users to prompt the assistant to complete tasks and answer questions directly related to participating apps.

Several companies have launched their interactive experiences, including: Spotifyallowing listeners to ask ChatGPT to create playlists, recommend songs, and more.

When you mention Spotify in the ChatGPT prompt, you will have the option to link your account. A “Use Spotify to get this answer” button will appear at the bottom of the page. Connecting your account allows AI to access your data, such as your preferences and listening history, providing context that helps generate better responses.

From there, you can ask it for recommendations for songs, artists, playlists, or podcast episodes based on your tastes.

You can provide as much detail as you want in your prompts. For example, you can create a playlist with a specific mood in mind, select an event to create a playlist for, or ask to include only your most frequently listened to artists, favorite genre, etc. It also asks for your preferred length, which is helpful when planning a playlist for a long trip.

During our tests, we asked it to create a playlist of dog walks, but all songs had to have the word “Dog” in the title. Here's what came out:

Clicking on a suggested song or podcast episode will open the Spotify app, allowing you to listen or watch directly.

ChatGPT can also perform actions on your behalf within Spotify, including controlling playback; adding and removing items from the library; create, edit and track private playlists; and managing the following list.

Please note that by connecting your Spotify account, you agree to the app's privacy policy.

This policy contains important information about data sharing and security, stating that if ChatGPT experiences a security breach, there is a risk that your data may be accessed by unauthorized persons. In addition to giving ChatGPT access to data – such as the songs and podcasts you play, the contents of your Spotify library and the people you follow – you also provide your IP address and approximate location.

However, you can disconnect your Spotify account at any time.

Plus Spotify explained in the blog post that it does not make content from artists and creators available to OpenAI for training purposes. All music, podcasts and other audio or video content on the platform remains protected.

This feature is available in English in 145 countries to all ChatGPT Free, Plus and Pro users on the web and mobile devices.

The integration can be used by both free and premium Spotify users; however, the company claims that premium users receive a more customized experience.

Other companies have also integrated their apps with ChatGPT, including Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Expedia, Figma, and Zillow. Integrations let you do things like ask Coursera to teach you something or search Zillow for apartments in your area in a specific price range.
