Zoom founder and CEO Eric Yuan believes AI assistants will eventually allow us to shorten our work weeks. Speaking on stage at TechCrunch Disrupt 2025 on Monday, Yuan discussed the use of AI in his video conferencing product, which includes a “digital twin” feature that allows an AI avatar to speak on your behalf.
Yuan began using his AI avatar on calls with investors this year, demonstrating the technology's potential and ability to push the “boundaries of communication,” he said.
At Disrupt, the executive emphasized spending a lot of time talking about artificial intelligence and the right products to bring to market.
When asked what he was investing in, he replied: “Artificial intelligence, artificial intelligence and more artificial intelligence.” The technology is the subject of hours-long strategy meetings because Zoom believes in its potential to transform work.
Yuan also suggested that there are many more use cases for AI companions beyond simple video conferencing replacements. He proposed a potential future scenario in which two business executives negotiate a Zoom contract.
Yuan said that instead of talking for a long time, they could first send their digital twins to work on a plan together.
He also talked about how artificial intelligence can help with email, checking messages and helping people understand what's important and needs a response.
Additionally, Yuan believes that AI can enhance Zoom's broader suite of solutions, including online solutions, for example board AND common documents.
“Today, I have to manually focus on all these products to get my job done. Eventually, artificial intelligence will help,” Yuan said.
“With this, we won't have to work five days a week anymore, right? … Five years off, three or four days (a week). That's the goal,” he said.
